So – we get home that night after the road rash incident at the school play yard.
The front tooth is hanging by a thread.
She’s in pain – she is crabby and she won’t let anybody touch her.
I am getting frustrated with her cause I know she will swallow it in her sleep and she is boobing like this is the 1st tooth to fall out – instead of the FOURTH
So she goes to the bathroom to try to pull it out again and again and again.
I make her lay on my lap so I can try it …. Again and again and again.
Keep in mind she won’t let any body touch it… and that it is merely hanging by a thread.
Her eyes are HUGE.
The tears are HUGE & ROLLING down her chubby little cheeks.
I don’t want her to choke on it in her sleep – so I march her to the bathroom. I have had enough.
This is it. This is the end. It’s time – it wont hurt – I did it last time remember??? I keep telling her.
The FIT starts.
I know it’s because she’s had a huge hard day and she is tired and in pain.
I get her calmed down.
And spend the next 20 minutes talking nice and softly – trying to get her to open her mouth.
It opens just a little and I just about have it when she loses her nerve and her mouth snaps closed again faster than a snapping turtle with a fresh meal.
The HUGE ROLLING TEARS start again.
I just ask her to please let me see it – I promise not to touch it.
She slowly opens her mouth.
IT IS GONE. She swallowed it while she was so upset.
So, now she is even more upset.
This is the second tooth she has lost with nothing to give the tooth fairy who she is sure will not come this time…….
So –
I get her called down and she writes the tooth fairy a note of love and apology.
And fell into a deep exhausted sleep.
And the tooth fairy replied to her note and left some money and asked her not to swallow any more teeth.
All is right with the world.
Except for a toothless smile and a little road rash on the nose….
